After a very very very long break (more than one year I reckon), I posted some more photos from our 2007 US Roadtrip. This time Las Vegas and drive through Nevada desert to California. More photos to come (at some point)… Whole Roadtrip photogallery here.

Czech service culture
Wednesday, November 7th, 2007My wife Imelda sent me a link to a Prague Post article about poor service culture in the Czech Republic. I found it quite interesting, because it hurts;-) It’s very critical, and it seems to me that most of the readers in their comments under the article agree. Though I would probably dissent in some minor details, in general I think they’re right. We have still lot of work to be done here…
It appears to me, that we Czechs still have the sheep mentality. We are not used to fight for our rights, we often let others step in our face. I’m still learning to be “cheekier” and stand up for my rights (esp. from my beloved wife;-), but I can see this inferiority as a customer is deeply entrenched in my behavior. It may have something to do with the fact that I grew up in communism and the way how schools were run. But the good thing is that now I know about it and I’m gradually working on it. Just stop going to shops that treat you bad, complain if you’re unhappy, don’t submit…
Comments please, am I totally wrong?
US vs. CZ
Friday, August 3rd, 2007Having returned to CZ, comparing my life in US with my life here is inevitable. I figured I’ll try to write a short summary – here is the first part, maybe there will be some more;-) Please do comment if you dis/agree and/or wanna add something… (more…)
Upgrade domácnosti
Friday, July 13th, 2007Náš soused Nick ukončil své působení zde v Albany a odjel zpět domů do Oregonu.
No nic, jdu zas do knihovny, už nemám moc času:-)
What to do/see in Prague (US perspective)
Friday, September 29th, 2006(I’ll write this in English, because it will be useful mostly for non-Czechs.)
When your friends from abroad come to Prague and ask you to show them around, you face the difficult task of choosing the right things to make it impressive, not boring and in a way representative. That is actually very difficult, especially for someone who was born and has ever since lived in Prague. You don’t have the necessary distance to judge what stuff is interesting for a foreigner, because you walk in those streets every day and you have seen all the buildings hundred times.
When I came here, I found out that quite many people had actually gone to Prague for holiday, so when I say I’m from Czech Republic, they often know that it exists and even where it is (some still mix it up with Czechoslovakia, but hey, you can’t blame them for that:-). And usually they mention something interesting they remember. I thought I might try to collect their impressions and maybe it will somehow prove useful in getting “outside picture” of Prague – either to exploit it or to try to remedy it in some instances!
